Apartment Review for Colonial Grand At Mountain Brook - Birmingham, AL

Summary: I think if they upgraded their kitchen appliances and kitchen/bathroom cabinets, and got rid of the moldy smell, they could charge much more for this apartment. But as is, the moldy smell is making me think I may have chosen the wrong apartment. bullets: Pros: Location (safe and almost everything you need is near by) Cons: Moldy smell (definitely my biggest problem), functionality (lighting, etc), bugs the details: I read all these reviews before and assumed it was someone that got pissed off and decided to write a bunch of negative reviews under different names. However having been here a couple of months now, I'm finding the complaints I've read to be 100% legit. My apartment smells moldy and two Yankee Candle electric plug ins have not been able to cover it up. Another complaint I saw a lot was about bugs, which I have also noticed. It's not bad enough to bother me (I'm a guy for the record), but It might bother others. I haven't seen any roaches, just tiny flying or crawling bugs and a few spiders.. 1 or 2 every other day or so maybe. As for safety, there's been one notice of an attempted break in of a car, so take that for what it's worth. That being said, the apartments are in a very nice location. I feel 100% safe at all times and can get to pretty much anything I need to in less than 15 minutes. I'd say that, at least during the day, safety really isn't a problem. Noisiness? I haven't heard any of my neighbors through the walls/floor at all, so that's good. There is, however, someone that comes in late at night ALL THE TIME (not just weekends) playing LOUD rap music. Condition of unit? The outside of ALL the units need painting pretty badly. The inside was not as clean as I would have liked when I moved in. I spent a little over an hour cleaning the bathroom and kitchen and then it was fine. A few annoyances in the apartment include: no sink sprayer, an outlet in the main room that doesn't work, no overhead light in the bedroom (there's a switch when you go in and a place on the ceiling where a light used to be, but now there's no light and the switch does nothing), no light in one of the closets, and a bathroom door that covers the light switch when opened making you have to awkwardly reach around it to flip the light on (this one is pretty minor).
